Scaffold Competent Erector Course

Course Overview

This course has been organized and developed by Scaffold Training Institute (STI), Houston, Texas in USA (is a worldwide leader in providing scaffold training programs) based on the international American standards for Scaffolding (OSHA Scaffold Regulations). The Course provides participants with the essential knowledge and skills to become scaffold competent persons as required and defined by OSHA. The Course's certificate is an internationally recognised qualification as provides an excellent technical background in the main essentials of safe Scaffolding operations including but not limited to erection, dismantling, alteration and inspection of different types of scaffolds.

Who Should Participate

For all multinational Organisations have Scaffolding works in their scope of work and need to improve the level of safety implementation during their work and prevent any undesirable accident coming from this kind of works. The course is designed for scaffold erectors and supervisors and Inspectors.

Learning Outcomes

After successfully completing the course, the participants will be better able to

  • Specify the General Requirements for Frame, Tube & Clamp, and System Scaffolds.
  • Determine the hazards associated during erection, dismantling, altering and using of scaffolds.
  • Determine the Specific Safety Rules and Steps Associated with the Erection of Frame, Tube & Clamp and System Scaffolding.
  • Identify the Major Items to Consider when Performing a Scaffold Inspection.
  • Specify the Major Elements of OSHA's Regulation 29 CFR Subpart L - Scaffolding.
  • Practical training on erection scaffolds (Tube & Clamp- Frame Scaffoldings).

The Participants shall receive hard and soft copy for the course material.

Pre-course Preparation requirements

None required.

Course Duration

The course duration is 5 days including practical part.

Course Examination

After completion the course there will be multiple-choice Exam.

Course Certification

Attending the all sessions of the course and passing the Exam are mandatory for getting the Course Certificate, wallet card and hard hat decal from Scaffold Training Institute in Texas, USA.

The certificate could be in the title of “Scaffold Erector”.

Day 1

  • History of scaffold accidents.
  • Definitions:
    • Scaffold Competent Person.
    • Scaffold Qualified Person.
    • What is a scaffold.
    • Basic types of scaffolds.
  • Types of Scaffolds:
    • Frame Scaffolds.
    • Tube & Clamp Scaffolds.
    • Modular Scaffolds.
    • Suspended Scaffolds.
    • Bracket Scaffolds.
    • Mobile Scaffolds.
  • Hazards of Scaffolds:
    • Falls from Elevation.

Day 2

  • Review of Day 1.
  • Hazards of Scaffolds (Continuing):
    • Falling objects
    • Electrocution
    • Collapse
    • Bad planking giving away
  • General Safety Requirements:
    • Types of falling protection.
    • Preventing of falling objects.
    • Dealing with Overhead Power lines.
    • Securing of Scaffolds (Ties- Guys, etc.).
    • Planks requirements.
    • Scaffold Foundation.
    • Plumb, level, and square of Scaffolds.

Day 3

  • Review of Day 2.
  • Safe method of Erection & Dismantling of Scaffolds .
  • Scaffold Inspection.
  • Training Video.
  • Scaffold labeling.
  • Mobile Scaffolds.
  • Suspended Scaffolds.
  • Aerial Lifts.
  • Under hung Scaffold.

Day 4

  • Onsite Practical Training.

Day 5

  • Onsite Practical Training.

We will need the availability of scaffolding materials and suitable place for the practical training.
